Kite Runner 6&7

In chapter 6, it is learned that the best time in Kabul is wintertime. This is when the boys fly kites. So, Baba takes Hassan and Amir to buy kites from an old man and they compete in a kite fighting tournament. Hassan is really good at the tournament because he knows where his kite will land before it falls down. In chapter 7, Amir is motivated to fly his kite and win by Baba. With Baba motivating Amir, he became really determined to win not only the tournament but Baba's validation. He wins and Hassan is sent to go fetch his kite. While Hassan is running to get his kite he is confronted by the bully Assef and his gang. Amir looks to find him and see their threatening Hassan to give them Amir kite. Hassan doesn't budge. This leads to Assef gang holding Hassan down and Assef rapes Hassan. Amir does stand their then runs back. After Hassan returns he is bleeding and crying and Amir pretends that he was looking for him. For me, this changes the image of Amir in my eyes. He left his "friend" there to be hurt and lied to him which makes him more of an antagonist than the protagonist in this story.
