the black family

Today in my ap lit class we read more poems by Maya Angelou. The two poems were about what is needed in black households and in the community as a whole. My favorite poem was "The black Family Pledge" which was about how in today's society we have lost the path our ancestors found for us. This is super true because in the black community there is a great divide. So with her writing the pledge, she wanted the community to be united. One line she said was "educate the illiterate" which we all should do within the black community. This is because we are often stereotyped as "dumb" or "uneducated", if we were all able to understand the world and its twisted logic we would be stronger and prospers. Also, I feel as if though we are letting our ancestors down because they had to endure a great deal of pain so we could have the luxuries we have today. So all in all, I really enjoyed today and hopefully, we will continue to talk about more serious topics regarding today's society.
